2 weeks into Development! Here's where we are...
Hello to all Baldi's Basics players. I just wanted to let you all know that I've started development about 2 weeks ago! And so far, everything's been going smoothly. I probably am taking a bit of an iffy approach to developing this fangame though... haha. But for now, I want to share with ya'll what I've done in this amount of time since I've started!
Here's a quick rundown (in a bulleted list!)
- Rebuilt the entirety of the Schoolhouse layout
- I haven't placed any desks or made items though..
- Swinging doors are currently the only door type to exist in the game, but that'll soon change after this is posted...
- Added the ability for me to be able to control the Maximum amount of Notebooks in the Notebook count on runtime.
- If I were to copy and paste a notebook while the game is running, if the count said 0/7 Notebooks, it would update to 0/8 Notebooks
- This can allow for some more expansive gameplay! Maybe even some secret levels... you'll just have to see.
- Added a snow particle system! (YAY IT'S WINTER!!)
- The way these particles behave is that they can collide with the ground the player is standing on, so once they hit the ground, the particle shrinks and disappears, as if the snow is accumulating!
- Captions are a thing in this! The wind caption might be removed before the release. (which isn't anytime soon)
- I've worked on Baldi's AI
- This functions identically to Classic's AI, but I'll tweak it as development continues
- There are no plans to add any custom pathfinding or navigation.
- Outdoor ambience has been added, the way this works is when you step outside, the school music halts and the ambience plays.
- Once you step back into the school, music resumes.
ignore the 0/0 Notebooks, there aren't any Notebooks in the scene, haha!
So after that (somewhat) quick rundown, I can safely say that I have ALOT more to do, clearly.. I've literally just started lol. Regarding "custom navigation", that's still planned for Jim, but if I reconsider halfway through developing this, then I'll just use the same old Classic AI, (NavMeshAgents). Currently, I'm looking into decorating the schoolhouse as best as I can, as presentation for this version of the game is KEY. I want this to be the best Christmas related Baldi game ever, so I'm going to go all out with functionality, and decorating accordingly. I do want to avoid going too overthetop with decorating though because last time I went over the top, there were bells EVERYWHERE... so yeah, lets not do that again... haha :p
Ya'll can think of this like another round of the BBCR recreation, except... partially remade from the ground up! Performance should be better because I can control how things work in this version of Baldi. And that's pretty much all I want to say... besides the fact that I wanna also cram a good amount of secrets into this game as well. But yeah, that's pretty much it! Hope you're looking forward to this. I won't be juggling Jim and this project simultaneously though.
And before you ask...
BRO?!? What's gonna happen with Jim's Tutor Class?!?!
Don't fret, I'm not cancelling the game, again this fangame right here is basically connected with the Jim project as they're both using the same framework. This should also hopefully make it easier to work on Jim in the future once I'm nearing completion with this.
