All Old Versions of Modern-Day Map Pack are now available! + EVOLUTION VIDEO

Yes! I've decided I want to unhide the downloads to the old versions of the floor one demo, but as for the rest of the old versions, those can be found here!

ALSO, I MADE AN EVOLUTION VIDEO! You can watch it here :]

That's not all I want to talk about though, I've realized over the course of making the evolution video that I want to curve the direction Map Pack will be going in the near future. I've talked about how Map Pack so closely resembles what is currently Baldi's Basics Plus, and it REALLY is shaping up to be a total ripoff! Originally I wanted to keep the aesthetic of the full game for this mod, however it really just became a Plus copy as a result of poor execution. I'll admit, it's an alright mod, a lot of the assets fit in with the game's aesthetic. But there's no way that this is going to fly going forward, I cannot keep it like this.

BepinEX

Okay! So I've thought about this for a bit after talking with MissingTextureMan101 (Someone you all might be familiar with!).  And I almost want to go through with this idea. It's to remake what Map Pack currently is, as a BepinEX mod for Baldi's Basics Plus, that way, calling it a Map Pack actually makes sense! I would almost have to tweak the level generation so that the levels generate differently than they do in the base Plus game.

I may not even go through with this idea though, porting characters over seems like a cool idea though, and it is indeed possible! So maybe I could do that instead! More stable variants of the Map Pack characters is kinda what I need.

Approaching Future Development

The way I'll approach developing this mod in the near future, is that I'll take whatever knowledge I get from making my fangame (Jim's Basical Tutor Class) and putting that into Map Pack, regardless of what form that might be in! But as of now, I'd say I need to completely remake Map Pack for what it is, I'll of course still keep things like my custom assets and everything, but going forward, I can't keep copying the Full Game's UI, so instead I'll try to create something that resembles it, but is not exactly a 1 to 1 copy. Screen transitions are getting reworked, and I'll put more thought into how I'll approach detailing the environment. And then I'll also try to make sure that the gameplay isn't a 1 to 1 copy of Plus' as well, of course that may be hard considering that it still is Baldi's Basics.

Pre-generated Level Layouts

This is something that Map Pack currently has (more specifically in the Floor One Demo), it has only one Pre-generated school layout. I'm not sure if I wanna keep using that system going forward, porting levels over from an outdated level generator is hard work. Here's what I have to do everytime!

  • Generate the Level (hoping the Level Generator doesn't crash)
  • Save the Complete Level as a Prefab
  • Move the Prefab over to the Map Pack unity project
  • Open the Prefab, and get rid of all of the script errors
    • There are ALOT of these, so it takes a while
    • I cannot use the layout until all of these unreferenced scripts are deleted
  • The scripts, once deleted, allow me to then drag the prefab into the school scene, then tweak any imperfections that the generator may have generated
  • Fix all broken and invisible meshes
  • Layout items

Y'know the usual! This is mighty complicated as well, and by no means is it fun, it actually is dreadful. I think it's safe to say that I may stop using the Level Generator for Map Layouts, even if they are logically similar to Plus' layouts.

OH! And just before I forget, I got a new PC just recently, and I'll be using it to make more games! :)

whoa, fancy

Anyway I think that's pretty much it! I'm not gonna keep stalling updates, I'll instead work on completely remaking Map Pack as a whole, It'll give me plenty of room for optimization, and I feel like if I start over, I basically can add controller support with ease before I start heavily editing another decompile!
